Navigation and
Hillcraft Training Days
Our hill navigation
training uses the NNAS syllabus. At Bronze level you learn to
navigate in the countryside using paths, tracks and other linear
features. Basic map interpretation and compass work is
included. At Silver level you will develop the skills learned
for the Bronze award to a higher level, including navigating to
features some distance from paths and tracks. Accurate compass
work is required plus an ability to use more advanced navigational
techniques.
On successful completion of the assessment you will be
awarded a certificate and badge at the appropriate level. It is not
a requirement of the scheme to start at the lower level. However,
if you wish to start at Silver level you should be confident of
navigating at Bronze level prior to the course. Please note that for
training and assessment for NNAS, two consecutive days are
required
If you don't want to go for a navigation
qualification, we also offer personalised coaching in hill
navigation using map and compass. Just come along and brush up the
skills that you want to improve. We also offer coaching from
novice level to pre-assessment for national awards, or personalised
coaching and training to develop your general hill
skills.
Our NNAS training and assessment days are
usually based in the Yorkshire Dales , where the weather and
terrain are more suitable. The Lake District and North
Wales
may also be used for some of our training
days.
